Wrap up of Dewey’s readathon

24 hours of reading is completed! Even with all the interruptions of life I still managed to read 789 pages off four books. Feeling beyond accomplished even though I didn’t think it was going to be possible.

In the first half, I managed to complete Purple Orchids and The Neon Lawyer. The neon lawyer wasnt something I was very much interested in, it dragged a lot and the plot was a bit typical. It isn’t a recommended read but if you do manage to snag it for free with the audio then go for it.

Purple Orchids had so many steamy scenes and it kept me very much interested because just when you thought you had it figured out, something else would happen and throw you for a crazy loop.  Can you believe it was a romance novel? Yup, my reading a romance novel is beyond rare, like finding a four leaf clover.

Now as the readathon was winding down, I did snag in about  3 hours of sleep that I needed oh so badly. I did wake up and began to read Good as Gone by Amy Gentry which started off really good and I am hoping to continue reading it. Who doesn’t like a good kidnapping, survival, thriller book?

Then, I began listening to The Color Of Secrets which is a world war 2 novel and anything based in that era always gets my attention so that one I managed to read close to half of it.

Out of all the books I read during the readathon Purple Orchids was my favorite. I am shocked that I enjoyed a romance novel because I tend to steer clear of those but it was nice to step out of my comfort zone which is what I had intended to do for this readathon.

I am so excited for the next one in October and even joined another group that holds monthly readathons! I think I have rediscovered my inner bookworm.

Which book did you enjoy reading during the readathon? If you didn’t participate,  will you consider joining the dewey’s 24 hour readathon in october?

Stay blessed!

Halfway mark for Dewey’s readathon

Today is the 24 hour readathon. I started it with an audio book as I laid in bed still achy and sore from the day before.  Waking up at 8 am is the hardest especially on painful weeks but listening to The neon Lawyer by victor methos helped kick things off. It was free with Amazon prime membership which is always a plus and life saver for me.

While I prepped everything in my morning routine I continued to listen to this book. I even listened as I prepped for dinner and I think I will continue this habit of listening to books while doing chores and cooking so I can get more books under my belt. Especially trying to met my reading goal on Goodreads.

It felt so good to relax and enjoy reading without flipping threw netflix as I always do when I am stuck home during mister officer’s long days.

The book I did manage to engulf myself into reading is Purple orchids. Oh my lord! I give it 5 stars, that’s how awesome it was, from the main character Gavin to the wonderful story plot of first love etc. This book isn’t a typical book I would have pawed threw this quickly but I did and I have zero regretts about it being the first book I read during the readathon.

There is still about 12 more hours to go and I am utterly excited to see what other books I have in my kindle to emerse myself into and actually feel words and descriptions because to me thats the valuable part of books and actually visualize it all which Purple Orchids hit it dead on. I always enjoyed reading so much and a big part of me has shyed away from it because being a mom eats up so much of my time (I don’t mind but it feels great to read just for myself).

I have no regrets in taking on this 24 hour readathon headon. I hope I still feel this once its over. Wish me luck!

Read on! And did you know about Dewey’s 24 hour readathon prior to this post?

My first dewey’s 24 hour readathon

I came across this awesome thing called Dewey’s 24 hour readathon. There was a countdown to when it began and it’s basically what the title is, 24 hours of reading and seeing how much you can read from your to be read list.

At the time I was sick with a terrible cold and in bed, so I signed up and joined the group on Facebook to see how much I would enjoy this and oh man, it motivated me beyond words.

I eneed up reading the laughing corpse which is book 2 from the Anita Blake series and started the wedding which is part 2 of the notebook. I did end up not being able to finish the wedding due to me just bring a mess with the cold but I can honestly say that when April rolls around for the next one I will definitely be more prepared and anticipating a joyous 24 hours of curled up with books. i will try to read more than just a book and a half.

Remembering the good times of when I could just read till my eyes hurt and not being engulfed by electronics and social media felt Oh so refreshing.

Here’s the blog if you’re interested in joining me in April! I look forward to it and enjoy tuning out the world to get lost in words. http://www.24hourreadathon.com

Stay blessed.
